چکیده

29 ABSTRACT Bend intensive single mode fibers are attractive for fiber to the home (FTTH) applications because they can lower the installation cost and improve the system performance. For in home wiring applications, bend radii in the range of 5 mm are very common [7] and bending losses must be kept minimum. Bending losses of less than 0.1 db/turn will ensure robust network performance under practical bending conditions such as tight 90 corners, corners under the load, excesses cable storage in tightly confined spaces. There are several approaches in designing the fibers with improved bend performance. There are various methods for designing the fibers with improved bend performance are used, for example, reduced mode field diameter (MFD) method, depressed cladding design technique and hole assisted design. In this paper, reduced mode field diameter method, to design and analyze the performance of single mode fiber with improved bend performance is simulated and analyzed.

Design of Single Mode Photonic Crystal Fiber with Outstanding Characteristics of Confinement Loss and Chromatic Dispersion over S to L Communication Band

In this article, a novel structure of photonic crystal fiber with nearly zero ultra-flattened chromatic dispersion and ultra-low confinement loss is presented. By replacing the circular air-holes of two first rings with the elliptical air-holes, a fiber with outstanding features of chromatic dispersion and confinement loss is designed. The proposed structure is optimized for operating in a wide...

Numerical Analysis of Index-Guiding Photonic Crystal Fibers with Low Confinement Loss and Ultra-Flattened Dispersion by FDFD Method

In this article, perfectly matched layer (PML) for the boundary treatment and an efficient compact two dimensional finite-difference frequency-domain (2-D FDFD) method were combined to model photonic crystal fibers (PCF). For photonic crystal fibers, if we assume that the propagation constant along the propagation direction is fixed, three-dimensional hybrid guided modes can be calculated by us...

PMD Characterization on an Active Fiber Link: Final Report

Signal degradation due to polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) effects may become significant for signaling rates of 10 Gb/s, 40 Gb/s, and beyond. To assess the utility of various PMD mitigation schemes, temporal and spectral measurements of differential group delay (DGD) were made on 95 km of buried standard single-mode fiber over an 86-d period to determine the distribution and rate of change o...

Low-loss Bending-insensitive Micro-structured optical fiber for FTTH

In this sample paper, we describe and provide a novel Microstructured optical fiber for FTTH, which has 12 holes in its cladding. The fiber has very good bending properties. The bending losses of the novel Micro-structured fibers at the conditions of 2mm bendingradius are less than 0.1 dB at 1550 nm wavelength. The typical PMD of the novel Microstructure fibers are 0.062ps/km1/2.The splice loss...

Design and characterization of single-mode holey fibers with low bending losses.

As the fiber-to-the-home network construction increased, optical fiber cables are demanded to be easier to handle and require less space. Under this situation, a single mode fiber (SMF) permitting small bending radius is strongly requested. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a novel type of bending-insensitive single-mode holey fiber that has a doped core and two layers of holes with dif...
